Can-Am Spyder Celebrates 10-year Anniversary

For the past 10 years Can-Am has pioneered a new idea in the motorcycle industry, two wheels in the front and one in the back. This is definitely a different idea then we’ve seen in the past. Over those 10 years, Can-Am listened to riders and developed different models based on the consumers wants and needs. A snapshot glimpse of the evolution of the Spyder is described below.

Spyder GS/RS: Introduced in February of 2007:  Just the idea of the Spyder was enough to get people interested. The safety aspect of two wheels in the front and one wheel in the back, coupled with the idea of seven different car technologies?! Can-Am put some thinking into this before they came out with it. Those car technologies include 1) traction control, 2) stability control, 3) ABS braking, 4) Reverse, 5) Cruise Control, 6) Semi-Automatic Transmission and 7) Dynamic Power Steering. The GS/ RS offered a sporty feel and design, where the driver was seated leaning forward with knees bent and feet back. The design of the seating position wasn’t enough to get everyone interested, which is why they developed the next model.

Spyder RT: In 2010, after a few years of the RS & ST (Sport Touring) announcement, Can-Am announced the new Spyder RT. This was a huge announcement, because it gave riders a long-distance riding machine. Equipped with extra storage, adjustable air ride suspension, a comfortable passenger seat, adjustable front windshield, and driver/ passenger heated hand grips; the RT has been the ultimate touring machine for        Can-Am Riders ever since. Since the birth of the RT, the motor size has changed from a 2-cylinder, 991cc 5-speed to a 6-speed, 3-cylinder 1330cc.  Although Can-Am seemingly had a lot of the demand covered, there was still some consumer complaints/ requests. Both the Sport and Touring models lacked rider adjustability.

Spyder F3: In 2015 Can-Am came out with the Spyder F3. The unit was designed with rider adjustability in mind, so a rider size 5’7” up to 6’5” would be comfortable driving. There are five different peg positions, and five different handlebar positions that the driver can choose from to tailor the ride to their comfort level and cruising style. Building off of this platform, Can-Am has added both touring, and limited models in 2016 and 2017, to make the Spyder F3 the ultimate comfort machine for the rider, and now the passenger too.

Because of Can-Am’s persistence in the Research and Development department, Can-Am Spyders have continued to see growth of nearly 10% per year! This is phenomenal for a brand-new motorcycle idea, that was announced just 10 years ago. To celebrate the growth, and to thank the riders for their continued support, Can-Am is throwing an anniversary party at Valcourt, Canada --  home of the Can-Am Spyder.  Upwards of 3000 loyal riders are expected. Now, that’s a party!

In recognition of all the support and success and to help celebrate, Can-Am just announced their new Spyder Anniversary models. These models will be offered in the Spyder F3-S model, F3 Limited, and RT Limited. This is a chance to own a part of history, and quite frankly, a pretty sweet looking motorcycle.
