Can-Am's 2018 Lineup and Need to Change

Due to the increasing demand in Side by Side’s, in September 2016, the President and CEO of BRP announced that Can Am would be coming out with a new side by side, every 6 months, until 2020. So far, we have seen the announcement of the Defender, Defender MAX, Maverick X3, and Maverick X3 MAX. The next announcement will be on September 20th, 2018 at BRP’s club event in Dallas, TX.

On June 1st 2018, Can-Am announced their 2018 Off-Road Line-up. The line-up announcement included some changes to the both the ATV and Side by Side segments. The changes for the ATV’s and Side by Side’s are outlined below.

ATV

The 2018 ATV announcement featured new colorations, an addition of user-specific models, and some product enhancements.

Can-Am Outlander XXC 1000RIn my opinion, the largest announcement was the addition of the Outlander XXC 1000R. This announcement adds sport accessories to the already popular Can-Am Outlander. The accessories include Front & Rear FOX 1.5 Podium RC2 shocks, 14-inch cast aluminum bead lock rims, 26” Terracross radial tires, a sport bumper with an aluminum pre-runner, full aluminum skid plates, aluminum a-arm protectors, and aluminum hand guards. Wow does this thing sound ready for some fun!

Can-Am Outlander North EditionIn addition to the Outlander XXC, Can-Am also announce the Outlander North Edition. The Outlander North edition comes in the 650cc or 850cc sizes and is available in the color white. This edition of the outlander is made for those that are working outside in the colder temperatures, when most people are inside. The north edition includes a CVT transmission with engine braking and an extra low gear for plowing and working, a 3,000 lb. warn winch, 14-inch cast aluminum rims with 26” Terracross tires, a fairing and windshield to protect you from the elements, heated grips and throttle and visor outlet, and high strength LinQ racks.

The final changes to the Can-Am ATV lineup were color changes and an addition to the Outlander Mossy Oak Hunting Version family. Can-Am added a 450-cc hunting edition as an introductory model. The coloration changes came across the board and really make the Can-Am ATV’s stand out from the competition! Stop in or hop on our website to check them out!

Side by Side’s

Can-Am’s announcement in their side by side segment came across all of the models and should increase the interest they’ll receive!

Can-Am Maverick X3The Maverick X3 made, what was arguably, the biggest splash in the Off-Road industry last summer when they announced the all new Maverick turbocharged X3. The X3 changed the whole Sport Side by Side industry. This year they announced upgraded to the X3! They include a horsepower boost, a torque boost, as well as an introductory model. The Maverick X3 is now a whopping 172 HP with an added 10% torque boost. This is now the largest in the industry! The X3 will go from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. In addition to the upgrade of last year’s model, Can-Am introduced a new baser model X3, which starts under $20,000. This new X3 has 120 HP, but all of the comfort and reliability features that the 172 HP model does. They just seem to be doing the right things in the sport segment.

The second change came in the Sport-Utility Segment. Can-Am has been extremely successful in their Commander lineup and should continue to do so with these changes. The 1000 cc Commander has been given a horsepower boost, increasing it up to 92 horsepower. For a side by side made for a mix of jobs and fun, this thing has some power! The other change came in the 800cc Commanders. They will now retail for $1,000 less per unit, but keep the same specs and power. The already extremely popular unit just got a lot more interesting!

Can-Am Defender Max HD8The final change came in the utility side by side segment. The  Can-Am Defender is growing in popularity and should continue to grow even more. Can-Am announced the addition of a Can-Am Defender MAX HD8 model! This side by side will start at $12,399, which is phenomenal for a 6-seater crew model! They’ve also added a model that has been asked about since the introduction in 2016. There is a Defender MAX Cab model! The Cab model will feature higher ground clearance, arched a- arms, a heater kit, and all of the other features that we love in the Defender XT Cab models.

There are a few things that I like to tell my customers that you probably won’t hear at any other ATV or Side by Side dealership. They include...

1)      If I were offered to run a dealership that had anything but Can-Am products, then I would have said no.

·         I graduated with a degree in Personal Financial Planning, but enjoyed riding on the weekends. I know from experience that the most comfortable, and smoothest riding ATV’s and Side by Side’s are Can- Am’s. There is just no comparison when have the opportunity to try out multiple brands.

2)      Shop around for quality and comfort!

·         I’m not shy to tell my customers to go down to the local Polaris, Yamaha, etc. dealership and test drive their vehicles. I know that if they ride ours they will know right away which one they want.

3)      Can-Am is the only manufacturer, that I know of, that has yet to sacrifice quality for price.

·         Back in the industrial era we could count on American manufacturing for a top-quality product. Now, in the age of globalization, we are getting products from all around the world because there’s always someone that will make it cheaper. But, IF IT’S A CHEAPER PRODUCT YOU’RE GOING FOR, THEN IT’S A CHEAPER PRODUCT YOU’LL GET!!!

·         Can-Am continues to get it accessories and products from manufacturers that are tested to be top quality. This is why I don’t see notifications in the PowerSports Business magazine for recalls on their product all the time. Try to follow their page, or other ATV pages, and see how many recalls other manufacturers have compared to Can-Am ATV’s and Side by Sides. It speaks volumes!
